Claire Brody Headshot

At Floor Coverings International Metro East, we love bringing you the latest insights from interior designers adding their voice to the blogosphere. This month, we’re happy to highlight Claire from Claire Brody Designs.  Read on to learn what inspires her style.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

I started blogging two years ago and launched my decorating and styling business, Claire Brody Designs, in January of 2015 after one year of blogging.

Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?

It started as a creative outlet after I gave up my past creative outlet of dance after 18 years. I didn’t pursue it much until after one year of doing it. I attended a blog conference, and it all clicked that “this” could possibly become a career. I enjoy being able to do what I truly love every day. The career I had planned to pursue in college was one that I knew wouldn’t last my entire career. I can’t imagine ever not doing what I’m doing now.

How would you describe your interior design and DIY style?

I love the mix. I appreciate classic and timeless beauty, but I crave a collected and lived-in look. I love mixing unexpected styles – timeless/collected, traditional/eclectic, bohemian/modern. Vintage is how I create interest in a room, as I love incorporating both new and vintage in every space I design.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Austin is a very design centered city – I find a lot of inspiration from homes and restaurants in the city. I also find inspiration online – I follow inspiring Instagram accounts and peruse Pinterest daily. I also check in to sites like My Domaine, Domino & Elle Decor often. My favorite designers of course provide endless inspiration as well.

Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.

I was really pleased with our guest room I just completed. It also serves as my office, so finally having a space that is inspiring to work in was huge for me.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Pursing the unknown in a career is intimidating and scary most days, but it’s also part of why I love it so much. I haven’t figured out exactly what I want my business to become, so I am currently pursing both my blog and design clients. Creating a beautiful space that is appreciated by its owner is ultimately what I love most. I would love to see what my career looks like in 10 years, but we shall see.
